Global Sourcing

GlobalSupplyGears.jpg

Many organizations consider sourcing from Asia (not just China) a viable cost-effective solution for supporting their company’s needs. However, sourcing product internationally has its own set of challenges:

  1. Time difference. When your supplier is on the other side of the world—which means they're sleeping while you're at work, and vice versa—you can lose precious days waiting for answers to questions.

  2. Language barriers. Suppliers may not be fluent in your language. Failure by either party to correctly understand requirements can lead to costly, time-wasting mistakes.

  3. Quality exceptions. Time differences, language barriers, and the inability to provide local oversight can contribute to quality defects which only become apparent to the buyer upon arrival in the USA…far too late to be resolved either effectively or efficiently.

  4. Production scheduling. When your order is late, your supply chain is affected in numerous ways. Delays cost money and negatively affect your company’s reputation.

  5. Compliance issues. A foreign supplier’s failure to comply with legal, social, environmental, safety or program specific requirements can result in damage to your company’s reputation and earnings.

  6. Remedies for default or failure. Legal action and remedies may be required in the worst of situations. Exercising the rights your company has in the United States becomes significantly more difficult, and often ineffective, when dealing with a foreign company.
